Shelby Township dentist Dr. Ban R. Barbat is pleased to announce a second recipient of the 2020 Ban R. Barbat, DDS Scholarship.
Olivia Stack, a graduate of Utica High School, will begin studies at the University of Michigan in the fall in pursuit of her goal to become a neurosurgeon. Her desire to pursue neurology became clear after a 3-week internship at Henry Ford Medical Center.
The Ban R. Barbat, DDS-PC scholarship is awarded annually to a high school senior who is pursuing a health-related career. This year marks the 20th anniversary it has been awarded by Dr. Barbat.
Eligibility for the Ban R. Barbat Scholarship requires the high school senior to have a 3.5 GPA or higher, provide verification of acceptance into a college or university and furnish letters of recommendation.
In addition to Olivia’s rigorous schedule at the Utica Center for Mathematics, Science & Technology, she served as Vice-President of the National Honor Society chapter and was a board member of Key Club. Olivia was also Captain of the Varsity Basketball team and ran Track & Field.
Dr. Barbat states, “Olivia’s goals to become a neurosurgeon are founded in a true passion to serve her fellow man and better the lives of others. I am excited for her future.”
