I recently saw a movie that featured Robin Wright, a true beauty in my opinion, who played the role of a single mother who’d been battered by an ex-husband. She first appeared in the movie as a bartender, still attractive although tired and worn in appearance. Yet, it was when she spoke and then slightly smiled that viewers could see her as the movie’s producers obviously wanted her portrayed.
Her character had a broken front tooth, with the remaining portion obviously ‘dead’ from its darkened shade. This took her character from being an attractive, yet hard-working mom, to an unattractive woman with little to smile about, living a sad life with a dim future. Just that one tooth made such a significant statement.
As a dentist, it reminded me of how dramatically the appearance of one’s smile can change the perception of those they encounter on a day-to-day basis. Often, patients share they’re resistant to apply for new jobs or promotions because they’re embarrassed about their teeth. I’ve had both men and women break down and cry, telling me they feel unattractive, some sharing that they’ve stopped trying to date because their smile embarrasses them.
The good news is that today’s dentistry offers a wide range of options that can repair, enhance and beautify a smile, both quickly and affordably! These include:
• Porcelain Veneers – Veneers are shell-like coverings adhered to existing teeth to reshape with a highly-natural look and feel, even reflecting light as a natural tooth.
• Bonding – Today’s bonding materials are an exceptional way to repair chips or reshape edges of teeth. The process is often completed in just one appointment.
• Tooth Whitening – Even deeply stained teeth respond beautifully to the whitening systems that dentists offer, which are safer and longer lasting than kits sold in stores. The system we use, Zoom II, is known for its comfortable application for those who are concerned about sensitivity.
• Crown-&-Bridge Combinations – A missing tooth is not only an unattractive mar in a smile, it places neighboring teeth at risk for loss as well. Our crowns and replacement teeth are made of porcelain. They are highly durable and custom-created to blend attractively in your smile.
Most procedures are performed with total patient comfort and in just one or two appointments. If financing is an obstacle, discuss your options with our Financial Coordinator. Deb has been with our practice for many years and is an “Ace” at helping patients achieve the smile they desire without over-extending themselves financially.
You CAN smile confidently, radiantly and beautifully! But, not all of us can hope for Jack Nicholson to come along and fix our broken tooth (as in the movie, “The Pledge”)! Arrange a free consultation to discuss your desires by calling 1-866-9-Smiles!
