Shelby Township dentist Dr. Ban R. Barbat is pleased to announce this year’s recipient of the 2020 Ban R. Barbat, DDS Scholarship.
Utica High School senior Raeleen Sobetski will begin studies at University of Michigan in the fall. Her ultimate goal is to become a surgeon.
A member of the National Honor Society, Raeleen graduated with a grade point average above 4.0 in spite of a rigorous curriculum. She held offices in the school’s German Club and Key Club and played on the varsity Volleyball team. Additionally, Raeleen volunteered at Henry Ford Macomb and St. Mary of the Hills.
This scholarship is awarded annually to a high school senior who is pursuing a health-related career. This year marks the 20th year that Dr. Barbat has awarded this scholarship.
Eligibility for the Ban R. Barbat Scholarship requires the high school senior to have a 3.5 GPA or higher, provide verification of acceptance into a college or university and furnish letters of recommendation.
Dr. Barbat states, “I’m looking forward to following Raeleen as she moves through this journey. She’ll make an outstanding surgeon.”
Dr. Barbat is a strong supporter of the Shelby Township and Macomb County communities. In her 20+ years in dental practice, she has been sponsor and a contributor to a number of civic and charitable organizations, including Shelby Parks & Recreation.
